Yes — acupuncture is covered by many major insurance plans in New York City, including Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), United Health Care, Oxford, and NYSHIP. Coverage details vary widely by plan, including conditions covered, the number of visits allowed, co-pays, co-insurances, and deductible amounts.
Olo Acupuncture offers free insurance verification so you can find out exactly what your plan covers before your first visit. Submit your information on our insurance page by clicking the 'Get Started' button, and we'll generally get back to you within one business day.
Olo Acupuncture accepts Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), United Health Care, Oxford, and NYSHIP. Anthem BCBS members can be seen in-network; other accepted plans are billed out-of-network. If you don't see your plan listed, you can either submit a verification request or contact us by email or phone.
We do not accept Medicaid, No-Fault, Worker's Compensation, or stand-alone Medicare (Original Medicare Parts A & B), other than Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans.
Most Olo Acupuncture practitioners are out-of-network with insurance plans, with the exception of Anthem BCBS, for which both in-network and out-of-network appointments are available.
In-network means your insurance company has a contract with the provider, typically resulting in lower out-of-pocket costs for you; out-of-network means there's no direct contract — your insurer may still cover part of the cost, but your share (co-insurance, deductible) is usually higher. Being out-of-network doesn't mean you're without benefits — it's simply a different reimbursement structure, and out-of-network benefits vary by plan.
At Olo, we verify your specific coverage as part of our free verification process to help you better plan for your care and avoid surprises. Submit your information on our insurance page by clicking the 'Get Started' button, and we'll generally get back to you within one business day.
A deductible is the amount you pay out-of-pocket for covered services before your insurance begins sharing the cost. For example, if your deductible is $1,000 and you haven't used any of it, you'll pay the full allowed amount for your acupuncture visits until you reach that threshold — then your co-pay or co-insurance kicks in. Your specific deductible amount and how much of it you've already met is something we determine during Olo Acupuncture's free insurance verification process. Submit your information on our insurance page by clicking the 'Get Started' button — knowing this upfront helps you plan your treatment without surprises.
A co-pay is a fixed dollar amount you pay per visit (for example, $30 per acupuncture session), regardless of the total cost. Co-insurance is a percentage of the cost that you pay after your deductible has been met — for example, your plan might cover 80%, and you pay the remaining 20%. Both are common ways insurers share costs with patients, and your specific plan may use one or both.
At Olo Acupuncture, we will check your co-pay and co-insurance amounts during your free insurance verification so you know what to expect before your first appointment. Submit your information on our insurance page by clicking the 'Get Started' button, and we will generally get back to you within one business day.
We verify your insurance benefits for free with no strings attached.
To get started, you'll need your full legal name, date of birth, Member ID, the Provider Phone Number listed on your insurance card, and — if you are not the primary insured — the primary insured's information as well.
Click the 'Get Started' button on our insurance page, fill out the form, or email everything directly to info@oloacupuncture.com. Once we have your details, we'll provide a clear breakdown of what your plan covers, including your deductible, co-pays, co-insurance, and any visit limits. We should have your information back to you within one business day — please allow up to one week during January, when insurer call centers experience higher volumes.
Yes — you don't have to wait for insurance verification to be treated at Olo Acupuncture. You're welcome to come in and pay the cash rate while your verification is in progress. If it turns out your insurance covers the visit, and you've overpaid, the difference will be refunded to you or applied toward future treatments. There's no reason to delay your care — book your appointment online and provide us with your insurance information whenever you're ready.
You can schedule insurance appointments online or by contacting us by phone or email during clinic hours. New Patients please schedule a Private Room Foundations in Balance 1 appointment.
If you are a returning patient but it is your first time being seen as an insurance patient, you are billing a new plan, or it has been over 6 months since your last appointment, please schedule a Private Room Consultation and Treatment appointment.
All others can schedule a Private Room Return Visit appointment.
We recommend verifying your benefits before your first appointment so there are no surprises. Submit your information on our insurance page by clicking the 'Get Started' button and we'll generally get back to you within one business day. If you would like to be seen ASAP that is not a problem — you will owe the cash rate in the event you are not covered.
If your insurance doesn't cover acupuncture at Olo Acupuncture, you're still welcome as a cash-pay patient and can also use your HSA or FSA card to pay. We try to keep our rates accessible — visit our pricing page for more information on both community and private room acupuncture rates as well as discounted packages.
Yes — you can pay directly with your HSA or FSA card at any visit, and no prescription or Letter of Medical Necessity is required. Acupuncture qualifies as an eligible medical expense under IRS guidelines, so there's no special setup or additional paperwork needed. Just bring your card and use it like a regular payment card at the time of your visit. If your HSA/FSA administrator ever requests documentation, just contact us by phone or by email.
Yes — we accept Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans, which often include acupuncture coverage by a Licensed Acupuncturist. Original Medicare (Parts A & B) and most Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans do not cover acupuncture by a Licensed Acupuncturist, so we are unable to bill those plans. Submit your information on our insurance page by clicking the 'Get Started' button, and we'll verify your specific plan for free, generally within one business day.
No — Medicaid does not cover acupuncture in New York State, and Olo Acupuncture does not accept Medicaid. This is a statewide limitation, not specific to our clinic. If you're currently on Medicaid, you're still welcome at Olo as a cash-pay patient — we offer an introductory package and have a limited number of sliding-scale appointments available. Visit our pricing page for more information.
No — Olo Acupuncture does not accept No-Fault insurance or Worker's Compensation. These are specialized insurance types with their own billing and legal requirements that fall outside our current practice model. If you were injured in an auto accident or at work and are seeking acupuncture care, you'll need to find a provider that specializes in those billing types. For all other coverage questions, visit our insurance page — and remember, cash-pay and HSA/FSA options are always available at Olo.
