6 Steps to Make the Most of Your Treatments

November 10, 2014

While the acupuncture and Chinese medicine services offered at Olo Acupuncture are uniquely capable of treating disease- and symptom-related imbalances, the practices of good health are ultimately in your hands. At Olo, we strive to provide the highest quality services from highly trained, licensed and certified, practitioners who can guide you in your journey toward better health. However, the more dedicated a patient you can be, the better your health can become. Here are six ways to make the most of your treatments at Olo Acupuncture.

  1. Be diligent, yet patient: Healing a chronic condition doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, the longer you’ve been plagued with a problem, the more time you’ll likely need to dedicate toward resolving it. Diligently dedicate yourself to the course of treatment mapped out for you. Be patient with the process; healing and rebalancing take time but are well worth it.
  2. Maintain a schedule: Try to schedule your treatment for the same day and time each week. A standing appointment makes it easier to remember, and thus limits the likelihood of falling off course. Schedule as far into the future as possible, to help ensure that the recurring appointment will be available. When that’s not possible, try to schedule at least a week in advance.
  3. Stay mindful: Understanding what your body feels like before, during, and after treatments will help both you and your practitioner facilitate the right plan of action for your health goals. Notify your practitioner of changes, no matter how big or subtle they may seem. Even the smallest change may be a reason to celebrate.
  4. Eat right: Nutrition is the foundation of Chinese Medicine and is traditionally considered first when treating an issue. Many foods and spices are considered medicinals with each affecting your body in unique ways. Follow a dietary plan that complements the treatment you are receiving. Your practitioner can help to guide you.
  5. Sleep well: When your head hits the pillow, your body goes to work restoring balance from daily stressors. It’s an important time to help your body heal, respond to imbalances, and make the most of the treatments it’s been receiving. Aim for at least eight hours of sleep at night, with more being better. If you suffer from insomnia, ask your practitioner for helpful tips.
  6. Follow up: Your health is constantly affected by the world around you, which means follow-up consultations are an important part of your health maintenance. Schedule a quarterly visit with your practitioner to assess your current health, and take care any imbalances before becoming serious.
